Environmental factors are the conditions and forces that influence how an organization functions.
Examples
- Internal: staffing levels, volunteer oversight, internal communication
- External: public trust, regulations, local demographics
Why do they matter?
Environmental factors affect whether an organization can meet its goals, fulfill its mission, and protect those it serves. Failing to recognize or adapt to these factors increases vulnerability and results in missed opportunities.
